Web 2.0: Addressing Institutional Barriers

Welcome to the wiki supporting the Web 2.0: Addressing Institutional Barriers session.

Using this Wiki

This Wiki has been set up to provide a space to allow particiopants of the Web 2.0: Addressing Instituioonal Barriers workshop session at IWMW 2006 to raise issues about the deployment of Web 2.0 technologies such as Blogs, Wikis, RSS and VoIP (Voice Over IP) technologies such as Skype.

 

This WIki will allow delegates to make use and gain experiences of a Web 2.0 technology. Prior to contributing to this WIki, you should first read the Acceptable Use Policy.

We would also like to gather your experiences of deployment issues. Please feel free to add your experience on the Case Studies pages, just put your name, institution and experience (note, though, that you can leave anonymous details if you do not wish your name to be identified with your remarks.

Abstract

Many institutions have an interest in exploiting Web 2.0 technologies in order to provide richer networked services, in areas such as teaching and learning, research or administration. However the enthusiasm which delegates may have after hearing about innovations taking place elsewhere often wains on returning to work and encountering a variety of barriers to the use of such technologies.

 

This workshop session will review the barriers which we may face and will outline a model and strategies which can be be used in order to address such barriers. notes from session

 

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session participants will:

* have a better understanding of the barriers that they may face within their institutions when attempting to implement Web 2.0 technologies;

* have outlined a strategy with which to tackle these barriers.
